Agriculture

The Agriculture Department is committed to effective formulation and implementation of world-class agricultural practices that will enhance efficiency and sustainable sugarcane production in the Kenyan sugar industry.

 Quality Objectives

  • To facilitate Formulation and ensure proper implementation of agricultural policies for the sugar industry.
  • To Plan, co-ordinate and monitor Development of appropriate Technologies and their dissemination.
  • To Liaise with Research, Academic, Bilateral, and multilateral institutions within and outside the country to ensure compliance to standards and exchange technological information.
  • To Provide Advisory services on development of new cane growing areas, and the rehabilitation and improvement of existing cane growing areas.

Roles

  • Formulate and ensure implementation of agricultural policies for the sugar industry.
  • Monitor the development and dissemination of appropriate technologies for effective farmer-research linkages
  • Prepare, implement, control and review departmental budgets.
  •  Provide technical support to other departments.
  •  Liaise with Research, Academic, bilateral, and multilateral institutions within and outside the country to ensure compliance to standards and exchange technological information.
  •  Provide leadership to all the staff in agriculture department

Structure

Head of Agriculture: Reports to the Chief Executive Officer. Provides leadership in development and Implementation of sugarcane production policies that will enhance efficient and sustainable sugarcane production in the industry.

Research, Development and Technology Officer: Reports to the Head of Agriculture. Coordinates and evaluates the development of technology and provision of effective extension services to enhance efficient and sustainable sugarcane production.

Agro-Mechanization Engineer: Reports to the Head of Agriculture. Participates in development and implementation of agricultural engineering strategies that enhances sustainable and efficient sugarcane production.

Crop Production Engineer: Reports to the Head of Agriculture. Continuously monitors and evaluates the status of sugarcane production in order to provide crop production estimates/forecasts.
